چکیده

A new absorbing boundary condition (ABC) is presented for the solution of Maxwell equations in unbounded spaces. Called the Huygens ABC, this condition is a generalization of two previously published ABCs, namely the multiple absorbing surfaces (MAS) and the re-radiating boundary condition (rRBC). The properties of the Huygens ABC are derived theoretically in continuous spaces and in the finite-difference (FDTD) discretized space. A solution is proposed to render the Huygens ABC effective for the absorption of evanescent waves. Numerical experiments with the FDTD method show that the effectiveness of the Huygens ABC is close to that of the PML ABC in some realistic problems of numerical electromagnetics. It is also shown in the paper that a combination of the Huygens ABC with the PML ABC is very well suited to the solution of some particular problems. 2007 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved. Rigorous Substantiation of the Method of Exact Absorbing Conditions in Time-domain Analysis of Open Electrodynamic Struc- Tures

Exact absorbing conditions are used in computational electrodynamics of nonsine waves for truncating the domain of computation when replacing the original open initial boundary value problem by a modified problem formulated in a bounded domain. In this paper we prove the equivalency of these two problems.

Metamaterial Huygens' surfaces: tailoring wave fronts with reflectionless sheets.

Huygens' principle is a well-known concept in electromagnetics that dates back to 1690. Here, it is applied to develop designer surfaces that provide extreme control of electromagnetic wave fronts across electrically thin layers. These reflectionless surfaces, referred to as metamaterial Huygens' surfaces, provide new beam shaping, steering, and focusing capabilities. The metamaterial Huygens' ...

Absorbing Boundary Conditions for the Schrödinger Equation

A large number of differential equation problems which admit traveling waves are usually defined on very large or infinite domains. To numerically solve these problems on smaller subdomains of the original domain, artificial boundary conditions must be defined for these subdomains. One type of artificial boundary condition which can minimize the size of such subdomains is the absorbing boundary...

Significant Error Propagation in the Finite Difference Solution of Non-Linear Magnetostatic Problems Utilizing Boundary Condition of the Third Kind

This paper poses two magnetostatic problems in cylindrical coordinates with different permeabilities for each region. In the first problem the boundary condition of the second kind is used while in the second one, the boundary condition of the third kind is utilized. These problems are solved using the finite element and finite difference methods. In second problem, the results of the finite di...
